SCENE Gold Program Terms and Conditions

By signing up for the SCENE Gold Program (the “Gold Program”), you agree to the following terms and conditions (the "Terms"), which are governed by and subject to the terms and conditions of the SCENE program (, to which you have already agreed to (the “Program Terms”).  In the event of a conflict between these Terms and the Program Terms, these Terms shall govern.  Terms not otherwise defined herein shall have the meaning set out in the Program Terms.

You understand that the Gold Program is a paid membership tier, and that you are only entitled to the benefits set out below (the “Benefits”) while your membership in the Gold Program (the “Gold Membership”) and/or the SCENE program remains in good standing or has not been cancelled by you or SCENE.  The Gold Program is currently being piloted in Edmonton.  Gold Membership is only available to residents of Edmonton and the benefits below are currently only available participating Cineplex and The Rec Room® locations in Edmonton. 

If you are under the age of majority in your province of residence, you acknowledge and agree that your parent or legal guardian has given you permission to sign up for the Gold Program, and that they agree to these Terms on your behalf.

You acknowledge and agree that membership in the Gold Program is personal to you only and you may not allow any third party to use your SCENE account to take advantage of any Benefits.   SCENE or its rewards partners may ask for identification before allowing any Gold Program member to take advantage of the Benefits.  In the event that SCENE, or any rewards partner, determines, in their sole discretion, that you have allowed any third party to take advantage of the Benefits by using your membership number, SCENE, in its sole discretion, may terminate your Gold Membership and/or SCENE account, without notice or refund. 

Membership Subscription Options:

Month to Month Memberships:  SCENE members may subscribe to the Gold Program on a month-to-month basis with a payment of $6.99/month plus applicable taxes (the “Fee”).  The month-to-month membership will continue until cancelled by you or SCENE, as further set out below.  Members must provide a current, valid and accepted payment method, which may be updated from time to time.  Unless you cancel your membership in the Gold Program before your monthly billing date, you authorize SCENE or its payment processor to charge your next months’ Fee to your designated payment method.    

Annual Memberships (Coming November 28, 2018):  Members may redeem 8,500 SCENE points for an annual membership to the Gold Program.  SCENE Points will be deducted from the member’s SCENE account at the time they sign up for the Gold Program.    On or before the annual expiry date, members that wish to remain a Gold Program member must redeem an additional 8,500 SCENE points for an additional annual membership or subscribe to the month-to-month membership by providing a valid payment method.

Promotional Memberships: In addition to the above, SCENE may offer special or promotional memberships through rewards partners in conjunction with the promotion of their products and services.  SCENE is not responsible for the products and services offered by such third parties.  Such memberships may have a different term other than month-to-month or annual, which will be disclosed to you when you sign-up.  Upon expiry of such promotional membership, you will have the option to continue your membership in the Gold Program on a month-to-month basis by paying the Fee and providing us with a payment method, or annually by redeeming 8,500 SCENE points.

SCENE reserves the right to change these Terms, the membership plans, Benefits and the prices (collectively, the “Gold Program Changes”) from time to time, at its discretion.  However, any changes will be communicated to you at least sixty (60) days in advance (the “Notice Period”), unless the change is to provide you with additional or more favourable Benefits.  Gold Program Changes to month-to-month memberships will not take effect until the start of the next monthly payment date after the Notice Period.  Any Gold Program Changes to the annual membership will take effect at the end of the Notice Period.  You acknowledge that unless you cancel your Gold Membership before the end of the Notice Period, you are deemed to agree to the Gold Program Changes. Members who signed up for an annual membership may terminate their membership if they do not agree with the Gold Program Changes, provided that they contact SCENE before the expiry of the Notice Period.   Members that cancel their Gold Membership will be reimbursed for the number of SCENE point paid on a pro-rated basis from the end of the Notice Period until the expiry of the annual membership.  

Billing and Payment:

By signing up on a month-to-month basis, you authorize SCENE to deduct the Fee from the payment method you provide at the time you sign up for the Gold Program.    Recurring payments will be deducted from your designated payment method on the calendar date, or the next business day, that corresponds to the date your signed up for the Gold Program.  Payment must be made by a valid credit card.   

You acknowledge that the payment of the Fee is facilitated through a third-party payment processing services (i.e. Stripe, Inc.), and that SCENE may replace such third party payment processor without notice. In order to provide payment processing services, including but not limited to transaction processing and fraud prevention, such payment processor may store, use or disclose your information in locations outside Canada.     

In the event the transaction is declined for any reason, SCENE’s payment processor will attempt to take the payment again within three business days from the date of the original transaction.  If the transaction is declined a second time, your Gold Program membership may be cancelled without notice and you will not be able to re-join the Gold Program until all amounts outstanding have been paid in full. If your new payment method is successfully charged, your monthly membership period based on the original sign-up date will remain, and will not be adjusted to the date where the new payment method is provided.

You remain responsible for any uncollected amounts. If we are unable to successfully collect payment of the Fee for any reason, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you have not cancelled your membership before the payment due date, SCENE may suspend or cancel your membership until all amounts outstanding have been paid in full.  Neither SCENE nor its payment processor will be responsible for any fees or other charges charged to you by your payment provider for any reason, including but not limited to declined transactions.     


Members may cancel their month-to-month membership to the Gold Program at any time by logging into your SCENE account at  Members who cancel their month-to-month membership mid-payment cycle will still continue to receive the Benefits until the end of the current monthly billing period.  Unless otherwise stated in these Terms, the annual membership may not be cancelled during the year.  Unless prohibited by law or otherwise stated in these Terms, payments are non-refundable and SCENE will not provide refunds or credits for any partial-month periods or any unused Benefits.


The basic Benefits associated with the Gold Program are set out below.    In addition, SCENE may add additional Benefits to the Gold Program at any time.  Any new or additional benefits may be for the duration of your membership or offered as short term “bonus” offerings, at the sole discretion of SCENE.  

50% Earn on Base Points:  Gold Members will earn 50% additional SCENE base points on the following purchases:

Cineplex Movie Tickets:   For example, SCENE members earn 100 points on the purchase of a General Admission ticket.  Gold Members will earn 150 points.  This offer does not apply to bonus points issued on ticket purchases, including but not limited to bonus points issued when purchasing tickets online or through the Cineplex app. This is valid at the box office, online at, the Cineplex app and at Cineplex kiosks.   

Cineplex Store: Gold Members will earn 50% additional SCENE base points on purchases or rentals at the Cineplex Store (   This offer does not apply to bonus points issued on purchases, rentals or SuperTIcket®.  This offer does not apply to the purchase of a SuperTicket.

Food and beverages:  Offer available on the purchase of food and beverages, excluding taxes, gratuities and, if applicable, alcohol, at Cineplex theatres locations, The Rec Room®, and participating Recipe restaurants.   This offer does not apply to bonus points offers, coupons or other promotions. 

The Rec Room: Gold Members will earn 50% more points on any gaming or entertainment spend where they currently earn base SCENE points, excluding any taxes or gratuities.  Not applicable on any bonus points offered or groups & events.

Half Point Redemption:  Gold Members are eligible to redeem half the Points required for a movie ticket for Wednesday showtimes, up to a maximum of 5 half point redemptions per Wednesday. Valid on all ticket types available.  

Upgrade to Premium Admission:– Gold Members are eligible to upgrade one general admission ticket purchase to a premium ticket once per week. (A week is defined as Thursday to Wednesday). Upgrades are only applicable from a General Admission movie to 3D, UltraAVX®, Clubhouse, Prime Seats, and IMAX®. Upgrade is not applicable for D-Box seating, Cineplex VIP auditoriums or 4DX.  The 50% earn on base points is not eligible for the premium upgraded seat.

Popcorn and Drinks Upgrades: Gold members are eligible to upgrade one fountain beverage and one popcorn up one size (small to medium, or medium to large), once per day.  Upgrades for popcorn and drinks are valid for concession combos where both popcorn and beverages are eligible for the upgrade.   If the concession combo includes multiple drinks/bags of popcorn, only one drink and/or bag of popcorn may be upgraded.  Upgrade is not available on kids combos, bottled beverages, teas, coffees or beverages that include alcohol.  Upgrade is not available for purchases made through  kiosk or the Cineplex App.  Members must visit concession stand to receive upgrades.   Valid on purchases where a SCENE Gold member redeems SCENE points, either full or partial, for their purchase.

Subscription Bonus Points: Month-to-month members will earn 100 points each time a successful payment is made to continue their membership.   In the event the payment is declined or returned for any reason, the subscription bonus points will be deducted from the member’s account.  A member that signs up for the annual membership will earn 1,200 points SCENE points.

Exclusive Screenings:  Gold members will be provided with RSVP access to Gold Program member exclusive and non-exclusive screenings, on a first come first serve basis.  Dates, times and content screened are at the sole discretion of SCENE and Cineplex.  Age restrictions and other conditions, such as price or redeeming points, may apply and will be included with the details of the screening.  Additional terms may apply and will be communicated with the offer.

General Terms and Conditions


Subject to these Terms, SCENE may terminate the Gold Program or your membership with or without notice.  Unless your membership is terminated due to a breach of these Terms or any applicable law, or misuse or fraudulent use of your account, or if your monthly payment is declined, SCENE will issue you a pro-rated refund from the date of termination until the end of the current monthly billing period (or the number of SCENE points paid until the expiry of the annual membership, if applicable).  

Warranties and Limitations of Liability:



If any provision or provisions of these Terms shall be held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the validity, legality and enforceability of the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
